Your Social Presence Sucks

I want to tell you something. Please listen to this.

You’ve taken the time to get yourself on all the popular networks:

  • Facebook
  • Linked In
  • Twitter

You even updated your:

…And you’ve got a website and blog or both.  You’re actively engaged with people and your just tweeting and facebooking away, making all those high quality, authentic connects you hear everyone talking about.

Then (as promised) someone comes along, engaged and intrigued and you’ve sparked a dialogue in their mind and now they want to talk to you, connect with you. They want to go beyond the blog – beyond 140 characters…

But they can’t.

You’ve forced them into a loop, a downward spiral, a never ending search for your contact information and they can’t find it because deep down, you are still being anonymous. You’re not interested in people knowing your email, maybe you’ll get spam; you’re not interested in a random phone call (sales opportunity!), you’re not interested in a gift or letter of appreciation sent to your mailbox (praise, validation, love, gifts!) and you’re certainly not wanting someone to know all the ways to track you down.  After all, you think to yourself, your on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and you checkin on Foursquare and Yelp every chance you get. You’re EVERYWHERE, “why would they possibly need my contact information” you say?

Stupid social circles and flawed logic are preventing you from truly great connections, conversations, and sales.

Yes, this blog post was written for you *points finger*.  Fix it. Now.

P.S. I’m not the only person talking about this, Seth Godin covered it way before me, I’ve just drawn it out to the bigger picture of social networks and an issue I experience everyday.
